Team Managers and Coaches

Managers

For those of you that are new to being a team manager - don't panic! This is an administration role and you don’t necessarily need to know anything about football.

We suggest the following duties (in conjunction with the team coach)

  • provide parents with a team list (names, contact numbers etc). The grade coordinator will provide you with the details
  • arrange for pickup of the team gear bag (balls, uniform etc)
  • liaise with team coach
  • advise parents/team of practice time/venue etc
  • ensure parents/team are aware of club events e.g. Club Day
  • prepare a duty roster for the team (e.g. half-time oranges, washing shirts)
  • ensure parents are aware of where to find out key information (where am I playing?, is the game cancelled?)
  • report results of your games to your grade coordinator (a text message is ideal)
  • return gear bag at end of season

Coaches

Obviously for this role it helps if you know something about football. If you are new to coaching, then it is recommended that you attend one of the introductory coaching courses put on by Capital Soccer. See coaching for further information. In previous seasons the club has arranged for experienced coaches to be available to assist for a number of sessions.

Playing regulations, and grade specifics are available here.

Each team must supply a person to referee one half of the game Team parents are encouraged to share this activity. The club runs a training session for referees.

The results of games must be emailed or phoned through (a text message would be ideal) to the grade coordinator as soon as possible after the game. The club is required to collate the results and forward them to Capital Soccer. Missing results may result in a fine by Capital Soccer.

Please advise your grade coordinator of the time and location of your practice sessions – this is to avoid any double-up and also so that we can advise schools of the use of their grounds.

The city council may also close the grounds during the week to protect them from overuse – the number to call is 801-4134. If the council grounds are closed please assume that the school grounds are closed also.

Do not practice drills in the goalmouth areas – these suffer the most during the season and cannot stand additional wear and tear during practice sessions.

For teams intending to make use of the Club floodlights at Nairnville Park you must register your intentions with Brian Rusbridge. Unfortunately there is a big demand for use of this field and some teams may miss out. The lights are operated via a control panel in the far corner – the last team in the evening must turn the lights off when they are finished.

Gear Bags

Gear bags can be picked up from your grade coordinator. This includes a sports bag containing set of club shirts, goalie gloves and a ball bag with practice balls, a match ball and a set of cones. This is “your” equipment and we ask that parents and players take good care of it. It is suggested that the shirts be kept together throughout the season (with a player rostered to collect at the end of the game, wash and return to the team prior to the next game). The alternative is to issue a shirt to each player at the start of the season, however these can sometimes be difficult to get back at the end of the season.

Please do not put wet muddy soccer balls inside the gear bags, the ball bag has been provided for this purpose.

Gear bags are to be returned to your grade coordinator as soon as possible after the end of the season.
