Hello and hoping that you’ve enjoyed the bit of summer we've just had.  Apologies for the length of this newsletter but there is a lot to cover.

Please pass any relevant information onto friends or colleagues who may not currently receive emails from the Club. This might include new nursery grade and Grade 7 boys and girls who may not yet have thought about football registration. Others who might be interested are people who are new to the area or girls who don't know about the Girls Only Sunday League. Remember enrolments close on the 17th February for Grades 7-14.

More information about the items covered in this e-news can be found on the Club’s website – http://www.onslow.org.nz

Enrolments for 2010 – open until 17th February

Grade 7-14 enrolments for 2010 are only open until 17th February. Please use the ClubHub online system available through the website. Players enrol using our online system and subscriptions are also paid online via credit card (Visa or Mastercard) if possible using a secure payment system. Please ensure you enrol during the specified enrolment period as there is no guarantee that late enrolments can be accommodated.

PLEASE NOTE that your player enrolment will not be accepted by the Club until paid in full. Additional information below:

    * Girls Only Sunday League has now introduced a GOSL 14 grade where girls born 1995-1996 can play on a Sunday (more details to come).
    * Please note there is a COMPULSORY purchase of a $10 Nairnville artificial turf fee for each girl for GOSL enrolled. Please pay this at the time of enrolment.
    * Girls can register for both Saturday & Sunday leagues. You need to enter the same child's details twice as if they were an entirely new player. They are entitled to the family discount of $150 (maximum per family). The $10 Nairnville artificial turf fee still applies however so families with a girl enrolled in both leagues would pay $160.
    * If payment is made via direct credit or by visiting a Westpac branch it MUST include a home phone number as a reference (no letters can be given) otherwise we are unable to match up the payment and you may be required to pay a $25.00 search fee to determine the correct family.
    * Please can you verify your email address by clicking on the link that is included in the email to you upon registering. Failure to do so will mean that you will not be receiving important information from us regarding football!

Please note Nursery Grade enrolments are open until 29th March.

Streamed Team Trials

Trial dates, venues and details for G9 - G14 are available on the website under Football -> Grade Trials.

  • Please tick the box when you enrol on Club Hub (our on-line registration) if you would like to register for the trials. Additionally you will be asked to complete a trial registration form. This should have been sent already by your grade coordinator but if you have any queries or have not received the form then please contact the coordinator for your grade on Gx@onslow.org.nz
  • To trial you need to REGISTER and COMPLETE THE TRIAL REGISTRATION FORM BY 17 FEBRUARY.

Transition from Club to College football for 2010

In 2009, changes were made to ensure that Capital Football and College Sport were not running separate competitions for the same age groups.  There is now only one competition provider for each age group:

    * Grades 7-14: Capital Football runs club-based competitions.
    * Grades 15 and above: College Sport runs competitions for colleges.

Therefore once they reach Grade 15, players can only play for their colleges in College Sport competitions.

PLEASE NOTE that College Sport does not offer competitions for Grades 13 and 14 – these age groups can only play in the club-based competitions run by Capital Football.  (Although some colleges enter teams in these competitions, we strongly recommend players continue to play for Onslow Junior Football Club through Grades 13 and 14 to gain maximum benefit from the club environment.)

More details can be found on the Club website.

Females in Football

A reminder that in 2010 the week of 15 - 21 February has been designated as ‘Girls and Women’s Football week’. The idea behind it is the promotion and support of the female aspect of our game. We are now calling on all Mums, Aunts, Grandmothers and Sisters to attend a 2 hour Small Whites coaching course during the ‘Girls and Women's Football Week’ celebrations.

This is a 2 hour course which will give you the confidence to put your hands up to coach your child’s team and know that they will enjoy it.

Female football is the largest area of growth in the world’s game and offers huge opportunities in the future to our female youth of today. We need involvement of Mums, Aunts, Grandmothers and older sisters in order to fulfil this potential.

  • Introduction to Small Whites Coaching course (2hr workshop)
  • Wednesday 17 February – Karori Club Rooms 6-8 pm
  • Registrations must be made as soon as possible through the 3C-CDC Juan Bautista Propato via email at propato_coordinator@yahoo.co.nz. This course is free of charge.
  • The week also included a festival of football for girls on Sunday 21 Feb 10. To top it all off the Football Ferns (NZF senior women’s team) play two international friendlies during this week. Further details can be found on the New Zealand Football and Capital Football websites: http://www.nzfootball.co.nz or http://www.soccer.org.nz/index.php?page=Girls_week

Gear Amnesty

The Club has announced a gear amnesty. Please could you search your cupboards, garages (and freezers) and put any Onslow gear you find into the mailbox at 7 Ngatato Street, Ngaio - no questions asked! This might include balls, shirts or icepacks but any gear, however old, will be gratefully received.

Thank you to our supporters

The Club receives generous support and assistance with the provision of football clothing and equipment from both Lotto and your local Football Central (Champs) sports shop at Left Bank Arcade, Cuba Street. Thanks very much to both organisations and please support them whenever possible.
