TrialsTeams are generally formed from school groupings and are not initially streamed. Returning players will usually stay with the same core group of players that they first start with. Beginning with grade 9, the grade coordinator will run trials before the season starts with the purpose of identifying and selecting players for a streamed team. Players attending the trial are assessed on their skills, teamwork and fitness. The club enters a streamed team into the grade 10 competition and depending on results may earn a place in the JPL (Junior Premier League) competition for the following year. There is also a JPL Promo league where a team can win promotion into the JPL. The JPL and JPL Promo competitions are obviously more competitive and serious than the regular grade football. A higher level of skill, fitness and commitment is required to be competitive at this level. The grade coordinator will organise the trial, selectors will be appointed and the trials will be advertised by email. It can be difficult getting hold of all players in the early part of the season so if you want to be considered make sure that the grade coordinator knows about you. The club policy for running a trial is available for reading here. |
